SAWP 2024/2025 NEWS

EFFECTIVE October 1, 2024 –  ONTARIO SAWP WAGE increases from $16.71/hr to $17.20/hr (for most commodities). 2025 SAWP LMIA APPLICATIONS MUST STATE AT LEAST $17.20/HR (for most commodities). Employers can check the Government of Canada website for updated wage rates here.

As per the SAWP employment agreement, SAWP workers must be paid the provincial minimum wage or the wage rate determined annually by ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada), whichever is greater.

Service Canada will accept SAWP LMIA applications up to 6 months ahead of the first arrival date.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Effective January 12, 2022, and until June 30, 2025, Employment and Social Development Canada will suspend minimum advertising requirements for employers applying for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to hire temporary foreign workers (TFWs) in primary agriculture. Employers are expected to continue efforts to recruit Canadians and permanent residents, including underrepresented groups, such as:

  • vulnerable youth
  • Indigenous peoples
  • newcomers to Canada
  • persons with disabilities, and
  • asylum seekers with valid work permits

However, employers won’t be required to meet TFW Program minimum advertising requirements or submit proof with their LMIA application.
